My latest obsession is fashion so I've been out shopping a lot (hence the late posts...haha). All this shopping has given me a taste for really high-end/luxury design.
After going to the Americana, I realized how much I loved the buildings there. So I started sketching in places influenced by European architecture.

And thus I've started developing my grad show project (it's one year away, I know!). It's about fashion and takes place in Italy. The characters were so fun to design. They're like fashion illustrations!

So this term I was in the Dot Exchange Program at school, where they pair you up with an Art Center alum to be your mentor.

It ended yesterday and I made these thank you cards to the people who made it an awesome experience.

I originally wanted to do something crazier for the cards, but that would've drove me insane because I had just finished my portfolio haha.

The bottom card was for my mentor, Leighton Hickman. He was an amazing mentor and taught me so much about painting/color and the professional world. I really can't say thank you enough to him because he was so dedicated to helping me on top of being stressed and sick!

New Project: Seraphi!

I started working on a new project for my portfolio (yes, already) using an old story I had in high school. I totally changed the story because it sucked and made no sense when I came up with it :).

It's called Seraphi. I'm still doing a lot of early development, some of which I have posted here. I added a bit more comic book style to the characters.

The story is about this boy (unnamed) who finds the queen larva of these bugs called Nymphs that live in a giant tree that "seems to reach the heavens". He names her Seraphi and decides to build a flying machine so he can return her to the Nymphs' nest.

Seraphi as a larva and more grown up. It's hard to design something that looks human, but is still bug-like X__X.

Cabin built under the giant tree. They're supposed to live here....in recluse! I'm still working on that cabin design.

So this summer I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds Group. I was one of the art interns working on artwork for Neopets (yes, I said Neopets, for those of you chuckling!).
Today was my last day and I had to say goodbye to a lot of great people I met. Going to miss this place dearly!

I went around the office and handed out thank you cards and cookies to the people I met (like little red riding hood, minus the skipping). Here's 3 of the fanciest ones I made. They were for my supervisor and the two lead artists.

Yes, I had to break out the exacto knife.

And my work badge with no ID picture :). I will miss this thing and the way it beeps when it's swiped.

Because I was lazy all summer, I didn't post up my internship work. So here's a few I did in the beginning. They're all 80x80 item creations except for the last one which is a Neopian Times illustration. Everything was done on Flash.

I TAed for Will's Sketching for Entertainment class this summer and I had a super fun time. So on top of interning, animal sketching, and portfolio stuff I've been doing this summer, I did the layout assignments with the class.

It was like retaking the class, minus the cluelessness.

I got to experiment with different stuff in each layout and I'm pretty satisfied with what I got out of doing them. So ready for Vis Dev next term!!!! Got to work on lighting next.

A Personal Project

Been bored out of my mind since end of Week 12 so I started to do some development work on a story I made up years ago. I'm excited seeing my story as a solid visual now.

Here's my set design for a place called The Lullaby Room. The water and coral keeps a magic song echoing in the room to keep a demon deep in slumber. The main char is supposed to wake him up on accident.

I totally forgot I had a blog...hehe. Got a lot of work this term so I'm busy a lot. Here's some personal work.

The first one was for the new Picture This club at school. There's a contest every week where people draw stuff for the speaker to choose and the winner gets a prize. The prompt for that week was "Under the Rain".

The second piece was done last term. It's one of my characters who gets her body swallowed by her jealousy of other women's beauty. She turns into a silhouette of her former self and she can shapeshift into other people.

I learned so much in this class...I think my head's going to implode and then explode!!

These are my portfolio pages I turned in for final crit. I vomited prop designs all over them :). They're in order from 1st to last assignment. So you see, I made my life harder by drawing more and more stuff for each assignment.

Maybe that's why I kept saying this class was kicking my butt. That, and because I didn't fully absorb all the composition stuff until the last half of the term.

My next goal now.....to master color!!!!!

I was looking forward to this assignment from the beginning of the term! Mean Girls! They're are all emo looking girls who have oddly good fashion sense X). Villainous characters are fun to design.
I really liked the girl in the hoodie with earphones on, but she didn't make it into the final line up. Oh well!

Little Girls Go Splat

Final pieces for my haunted house. I did key scenes in my story because I like doing finished pieces. And also because I wanted to CG!! I think these are my first CGed Photoshop pieces at Art Center.

Story is about a little girl who gets dared to go into the haunted house. She goes in and finds a ghost playing piano. As the song comes to an end, the musical notes become daggers and kill her. The end :).

I'm trying to find some time to fix these up according to the crit and awesome suggestions my classmates gave me. The last one is a redo ;o;!

Here's some stuff from Inventive Drawing. It's a fun class and I'm learning to draw cartoons!

I'm no good at drawing Thumper. Most of them don't even look like Thumper! I guess one reason is because I'm still new at this cartoony Disney-esque style.

The hairstyle assignment is my favorite so far. I went through my old Seventeen and Cosmogirl magazines for different hairstyles. Some of the characters look like my classmates by accident.

I watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on Sunday and I totally loved it!!!! The humor was actually funny and I can't remember the last time I actually laughed watching a movie.

It's not an amazing piece or a great one, but it's ok. I tried painting with goauche and it's pretty nice. You can get that watercolor effect AND that really nice finish from acrylic!

I'm slacking off a lot and getting fatter because of break, but I'm trying to finish some pieces before it's over.
Here's two color comps I did for a piece I'm working on. The first color comp is actually not finished because I knew the colors weren't working right. The second one is what the final is going to look like.

The story behind the image is that this girl accidentally unlocks one of the many secret magical doors in her school (really old). Inside, she finds a person strung to a giant tree-like plant.
There's more but it gets too long so I'll just leave at that.

I watched Coraline Thursday of Week 14 and it was awesome!!!! The set design and everything was really cool.
I really liked the style of the movie so I drew myself in the style of Coraline. I haven't CGed in awhile so it was nice to get back on Photoshop! I drew an evil version too with button eyes X). Gotta love the evil stuff!

Materials for Art & Design

My fingers are still intact after this class, but I think I'm going to die from all the toxic fumes I inhaled.

Below are two of the projects I did for the class. First one is my plaster form where we cut up a block of plaster into something abstract, then make a wood form to go with it. My classmate thought my piece looked like a peacock.

Second piece is a Cocopeach! It's a hybrid fruit of a coconut and a peach. I think lots of people saw me working on it in the classroom. Everyone thought my four bronze peach pits were really trippy. The whole piece is so freaking pink! I swear I'm not that feminine...it just came out that way. I'm really happy with the way it turned out though.

Digital Illustration

My first digital class at Art Center! It was really fun and it's nice to touch the computer again after so long. I have to say that I like Illustrator a lot more now.

I realized that digital coloring has become so much easier for me thanks to Design 2. So glad I worked hard in that class last term..haha.

I think this is the class I struggled most in. I went from hating it to loving it at the end of the term. I also made lots of awesome friends and I loved how our class was so small and then shrunk even more haha.

Good times in this class. I think I've already mentioned to a number of people that I'm going to miss it. Despite not being able to perform as well in this class as I do in my other studio classes, I still like it.
